What’s the average age range for American girl stuff?
My sister and I are getting rid of our old American Girl stuff. This includes 4 of the historic dolls, all the historic books, plus doll accessories, the books that aren’t related to the dolls (the care and keeping of you, etc) We have 3 young female cousins – sisters – who we want to surprise with them. Mackenzie is 12, Allie is 9, and Wendy is 6. Allie is definitely the right age, but we’re worried that Mackenzie might be too old and be embarrassed, and Wendy might be too young and not understand the stories (although she can read well). What’s the normal age range for liking them? I think I was about 7 when I started, but I can’t remember when I stopped liking them. Thanks!
Mackenzie is definitely too old, Allie is just right (most of the characters are 9-10, I believe), and Wendy can enjoy the dolls now, and the books in a year or so.
As a twelve year old (fifteen now), I probably would have read the books over (I have a lot of them anyways) but wouldn’t have played with the dolls. Give her the Care and Keeping of You-type books (those are classics, and very helpful to preteens), the historical books and a few of the dolls to Allie, and the dolls and a few of the books to Wendy. They’ll probably end up sharing them.
