Where can I find inexpensive 18 inch doll clothes?
My daughter received an American Girl Doll for Christmas and really would like some clothes for it as her birthday gift. The clothes are outrageously expensive – even the non-brand type. Does anyone know of a website or a particular ebay seller who sells 18″ doll clothes that are of decent quality and not horribly over-priced? Thanks.
You can either look in the category set aside by eBay for American Girl clothing: “Dolls & Bears:Dolls:Clothes, Accessories:Modern:American Girl:Other” or do a search on “18″ doll clothes”. eBay has specific rules on how sellers can advertise items for specific dolls, i.e., they are not supposed to use trademarked names unless it is the actual stuff. This means if it is from AG, they can say American Girl, otherwise they can say, “fits American Girl dolls”.
“wulang55″ is one seller who makes very well made, yet very inexpensive clothing for AG-size dolls. She is in China and her shipping is quick and very reasonable.
One other option to keep in mind, providing that you like styles of the late 1950s, is that clothing made for Chatty Cathy will also fit American Girl dolls. Cathy’s feet are bigger, so shoes and socks won’t fit.
If you can sew, you might want to keep your eyes peeled on eBay for the pattern sets marketed by American Girl for each of the dolls. They have been discontinued, but I have heard that at least one site has copies. These patterns can be used to make much of the clothing used for the historical dolls.
